The Hong Kong country code is also called the Hong Kong calling code, dialing code, phone code or international dialing code. They all mean +852.

How to call Hong Kong from abroad

Dial your country’s exit code, then 852, then the eight-digit number. On a mobile phone you can press + instead of the exit code.

How to call Hong Kong from the US

Dial 011, then 852, then the eight-digit number: 011 852 XXXX XXXX. From a US mobile phone you can use +852 instead of 011 852. There is no area code and no leading zero.

How to dial Hong Kong in three steps

1. Dial your exit code. Dial your country’s international exit code, such as 011 from the US, 00 from the UK or mainland China, or 0011 from Australia. On a mobile phone, press + instead.
2. Dial 852. Enter 852, the Hong Kong country code.
3. Dial the eight-digit number. Enter the eight digits, with no area code and no leading zero.

Hong Kong phone number format

Hong Kong numbers have eight digits and no area code. The first digit tells you the type of line: landlines start with 2 or 3, and mobiles start with 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9. Mobile numbers beginning 4, 7 and 8 were added later, alongside the older 5, 6 and 9 ranges. Mainland China uses a different code, +86, and Hong Kong calls to the mainland and Macau count as international calls.

Hong Kong area code: there isn’t one

Hong Kong has no area codes, so nothing goes between +852 and the eight-digit number. Don’t confuse it with its neighbours: Macau and mainland China have their own country codes.

How to call out of Hong Kong

From a Hong Kong phone, dial 001 or press + on a mobile, then the country code and number. The 001 prefix works on all lines. Calls to mainland China (+86) and Macau (+853) are international, so include the country code.
